Hongyan Village
The Hongyan Village lies at the south bank of the Jialingjiang River near the Hualong Bridge out of Chongqing suburb.

It is the former site that the southern bureaus of the Chinese Communist Party Central Committee and the Eighth Route Army halted in Chongqing office in the period of the War of Resistance Against Japan. Now it is called "Hongyan Revolution Memorial Hall".

In the period of the War of Resistance Against Japan, Chongqing was always a district that the China Nationalist Party ruled and called the rear area in the resistance war. In December 1938, the Chinese Communist Party sent the mission headed by Zhouenlai (the secretary of the southern bureau at that time) to Chongqing to lead members of the Communist Party to resist Japan and organize.

Under the premise of consolidating national united front to achieve the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japan, they spread agency with the Nationalist Party. The number 13 in Hongyan Village is the Chongqing office of the Communist Party Central Committee and the Eighth Route Army from May, 1939 to May, 1946.

After the War of Resistance Against Japan gained victory, the Nationalist Party and the Communist Party began to consult and negotiate in order to carry out the aim of constructing China in peace and unity.

Mao Zedong arrived in Chongqing in August 1945, lived in the Hongyan Village, with the mission of the Communist Party Central Committee led by Zhou Enlai, negotiated with the mission of the Nationalist Party headed by Jiangjieshi.

While the drawing room downstairs of "the Laurel Garden" in the Hongyan Village is the place that Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai reached agreement with the Nationalist Party and signed "Double Ten Agreement". Mao Zedong once interviewed people and reporters of all circles. In the right dining room, Mao Zedong and Zhou Enlai once entertained diplomatic envoys of all countries and people from home and abroad.

The 2nd building of the Laurel Garden is the place that Mao Zedong and Zhou Enlai handled affairs and had a rest. Presently, the photos of them and the members of the Communist Party in Chongqing, with concerned reports in "New China Daily" and "Liberation Daily" published then are displayed here.

The location of the Hongyan Village had an important effect in China modern history and possessed special souvenir significance, so the Hongyan Village was enlarged into "Hongyan Revolution Memorial Hall" in 1959. The branch hall is in the place of the former Southern Bureau office of Zhou Enlai - Zengjiayan. If you are concerned about the development of China modern history very much, when you come to Chongqing, you must come here to visit it.
