Shaoxing
Shaoxing is a delicate city of rivers, lakes and black awning boats in south China. Shaoxing is the birthplace of many famous scholars, writers and artists, including Caiyuanpei, a famous educator and Lu Xun, the world-renowned novelist and revolutionist.
As Lu Xun's childhood and early youth were spent in Shaoxing, many of his best known protagonists, such as Ah Q and Kong Yiji, are also supposed to be natives to the city. Shaoxing is also known throughout China for its rice wine, which has a history of 2500 years and is a favorite of so many Chinese recipe books worldwide.
