Brief:Dr. Sun Yat-sen's Former Residence

Dr. Sun Yat-sen's Former Residence
Dr. Sun Yat-sen (1866—1925) is a great revolutionary pioneer of 1920s in China. He was the founder of the National Party of China (kuomintang), and was elected the acting President of China in 1912.

Shanghai was the city he visited quite often, and his former residence in Shanghai was located in 29 Moliai Road (present 7 Xiangshan Road), not far from Huaihai Road, one of the main shopping districts and in the heart of the former French Concession area.

Dr. Sun and his wife Madame Song Qing Ling stayed here between 1918 and 1924. After Dr. Sun died in March 1925, Madame Song continued to stay here until 1937.

This house was a gift to Dr. Sun and his wife from some overseas Chinese in Canada who wanted to provide him with at least a stable residence to live in when he was fully engaged in his revolutionary activities.

It was in this house that Dr. Sun reshuffled the National Party of China, reached an agreement for cooperation between the National Party and the Communist Party of China, and made out his plan for the International Development of China.

This two-storey house in European style is a charming relic of times gone by. It is abundant in its collection of cultural relics including the manuscripts of Dr. sun, historical photos, records, and some of the things he once used.

In the sitting-room downstairs, there is a set of sofa he once used, and the portrait on the wall was taken when he was elected the President of China. The books, stationery, glasses and even the medical apparatus used by him were all displayed in the study and bedrooms upstairs.

Today, all the rooms are arranged as they were when Dr. Sun lived here and the house is a fascinating insight into the life of the great man.
